Even while the Mughal Empire is the main aspect of Agra that we are familiar with, the city existed much before that. The city was allegedly create in 1475 by Badal Singh, and Sikandar Lodi, the ruler of the Delhi Sultanate, designated it as his capital 29 years later. Shah Jahan gave Agra its most beloved and well-known landmark, the Taj Mahal, as a loving tribute to his wife Mumtaz Mahal.
