If you forgot the Screen Time code
If you forgot your Screen Time passcode or the passcode for a member of your Family Sharing group, follow the steps below. Instead, if you forgot the passcode to unlock your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, or get a message that your device is disabled, follow these steps.
How to reset the Screen Time passcode for your personal device
Follow the steps below to change your Screen Time passcode on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac.
On an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
- Go to Settings > Screen Time.
- Tap Change Screen Weather Passcode, and then tap Change Screen Weather Passcode again.
- Tap Forgot the code?
- Enter the Apple ID and password* you used to set up your Screen Time passcode.
- Enter the new Screen Time passcode, then re-enter it to confirm.
on a mac
- Make sure your Mac is updated to macOS Catalina 10.15.4 or later.
- Choose Apple menu > System Settings or System Preferences, then click Screen Time.
- Click Change code and then Remember code.
- Enter the Apple ID and password* you used to set up your Screen Time passcode.
- Enter the new Screen Time passcode, then re-enter it to confirm.
If you’ve turned on Sharing across devices, the new Screen Time passcode will automatically update on those devices after you reset it.

How to reset the Screen Time passcode on your child’s device
If you use Family Sharing to manage a child’s account, the passcode reset options won’t be available on their device. Follow the steps below on the Family Advocate’s device to reset your child’s Screen Time passcode.
On an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
- On the family representative’s device, go to Settings > Screen Time.
- Scroll down and select a child’s name under Family.
- Tap Change Screen Weather Passcode, and then tap Change Screen Weather Passcode again. You may need to authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode.
- Enter the new Screen Time passcode, then re-enter it to confirm.
on a mac
- Make sure your Mac is updated to macOS Catalina 10.15.4 or later.
- Choose Apple menu > System Settings or System Preferences, then click Screen Time.
- Select a child’s name from the dropdown menu on the left sidebar.
- Click Change code and then Remember code.
- Enter the Apple ID and password* you used to set up your Screen Time passcode.
- Enter the new Screen Time passcode, then re-enter it to confirm.
If you’ve turned on Sharing across devices, the new Screen Time passcode will automatically update on those devices after you reset it.
