10 Different Types Of Fertility Tests For Women

As a female, when you notice you are having a conception issue, you decide to visit a fertility hospital in your locality to know the exact cause. At the hospital or clinic, the doctor interacts with you to know your sexual habits, lifestyle, and medical history. And the doctor conducts a physical examination of your pelvic area before recommending a few tests to determine the issues. The recommended tests can include the following:

1. Ovulation testing 

A fertility specialist recommends this test to know whether a female is ovulating or not. This test includes basal body temperature charting, blood tests, ovulation predictor kits, and ultrasound. The blood test is done for knowing the hormone levels. 

2. Ovarian reserve testing

Females are born with a fixed number of eggs that decrease with age. At 35, females are left with a few thousands eggs in their ovaries. Through this test, the respective experts know the number of available eggs. It begins with hormone testing early in the menstrual cycle. 

3. Hysterosalpingography 

Doctors recommend this test to evaluate the current status of a female’s fallopian tubes and uterus to see if there is any damage or blockage. After the injection of an X-ray contrast into the uterus, experts take an x-ray to know whether a female’s uterine cavity is normal or not. Further, this test helps to see the fluid spilling out of the fallopian tubes.

4. Ovarian function tests 

With this test, a respective doctor analyses the functioning of reproductive hormones during ovulation. The test includes the measurement of oestradiol and follicle stimulating hormones on the 3rd day of menstrual periods. The doctor can recommend a blood test and an ultrasound to know inhibin levels. 

5. Luteal phase testing 

The doctor suggests this test to determine the levels of progesterone and other hormones such as prolactin, oestradiol, luteinising, and follicle-stimulating hormones. So, this test includes hormone blood level tests such as the oestrogen level test.   

6. Imaging tests 

A respective doctor advises a female to have a few imaging tests that could be pelvic ultrasound and sonohysterogram. The pelvic ultrasound helps to detect ovarian and uterine diseases while the sonohysterogram, a saline infusion sonogram, helps to see the details inside a female’s uterus that are usually not visible in a regular ultrasound. 

7. Hysteroscopy
